EXchange Mux II Advanced Multiplexer

EXchange Mux® II
Advanced Multiplexer

As the original high-density broadband multiplexer, Charles Industries EXchange Mux® II Advanced Multiplexer set the standard for high-density M13 solutions.  The EXchange Mux II's unique flexible chassis design has proven to be an ideal choice for evolving networks.

Unlike other designs that offer limited or fixed shelf configurations, the EXchange Mux® II has universal shelf slots that can be equipped with an array of module types to provide unparalleled flexibility.

EXchange Mux II – 2 RU Chassis

The EXchange Mux II is offered in both a 2 RU (Rack Unit) and 3 RU chassis.  Both versions utilize the same service modules.  The 2 RU chassis is ideal for installation in areas where space is at a premium.  The 3 RU chassis supports standard Amphenol 64 pin connectors for T1/E1 terminations as well as BNC for DS3 termination.  At only 5.25” in height, the 3 RU chassis is the industry’s smallest high density M13 shelf with Amphenol connectors for T1/E1 termination.

The EXchange Mux II has been designed with superior power/heat management characteristics, which allow fully-loaded configurations to fit where other equipment will not.  Further, the EXchange Mux® II allows the most M13 muxes to fit in a rack while meeting the Telcordia thermal guidelines.

Depending upon the configuration and surrounding environmental conditions, a fan tray may be necessary to achieve optimal system performance in bays in which EXchange Mux II chassis are stacked on top of each other.  The 3 RU chassis supports an optional integrated fan tray that fits in the space above the service modules and within the confines of the 3 RU chassis.  The fan unit does not increase the overall dimensions of the shelf and plugs directly into the chassis.  Power and alarm connections are provided through the chassis.  By eliminating the need for an external fan tray, the integrated fan tray saves customers time, money and rack space.  Rack space savings will allow for additional shelves to be deployed in the same rack thereby increasing the total number of T1/E1 terminations in a rack.

EXchange Mux II - 3 RU Chassis with Optional Fan Tray

The EXchange Mux® II supports an array of service modules.  The Programmable M13 Mux Module, which can be configured through software to support DS3 or STS-1, enables customer’s tremendous flexibility in a time where networks are constantly evolving.  T1 and E1 interfaces are supported.  An OC-3/STM-1 Module allows multiplexing from T1/E1 to OC-3/STM-1 in an extremely small package.

Modules currently supported in EXchange Mux II include:
