3Com eXpandable Resilient Networking (XRN™)
technology offers a pay-as-you-grow strategy that lets enterprise customers
simply and cost-effectively scale their Gigabit backbone by combining two 3Com
Gigabit multilayer switches in an XRN Phase One Distributed Fabric. An XRN
Distributed Fabric for a single site is built with the XRN Interconnect Kit and
any two switches from the 3Com® SuperStack® 3 Switch 4900 or 3Com Switch 40x0
families.
XRN technology lets these two switches function as a single
device while retaining their switching and software capabilities—without the
added complexity of managing two separate core Layer 3 devices. What's more,
should a switch in the fabric fail, all management and Layer 2 and Layer 3
switching are automatically restored on the remaining switch. As demand for
bandwidth increases, the distributed nature of an XRN fabric eliminates
congestion at the core or aggregator. In addition, XRN technology lets you
connect multiple fabrics for greater performance and increased scalability.
