The 3Com® Firewall Fiber-FX PCI Card with 100 LAN works with
the 3Com Embedded Firewall Policy Server (sold separately), extending centrally
managed, hardware-enforced network security to desktops and servers across the
organization. Together, they complement a defense-in-depth strategy—safeguarding
your internal connections with superior tamper-resistance that software-only
firewalls can't match.
The firewall card's onboard RISC processor
operates independently of its host system and is practically impervious to
Internet attacks, user actions, or malicious code. Equally important, each
firewall client is configurable only through authenticated policy servers. In
other words, even if a firewall-client device is invaded, it's practically
impossible to exploit that system as an attack launching pad.
Because
fiber-optic cabling doesn't emit radio waves, fiber connections are inherently
more secure and efficient than copper wiring. Our fiber-compatible, PCI-bus card
is ideal for locations exposed to electrical interference or for time-sensitive
converged transmissions, such as voice and video. The firewall card plugs into
the PCI slot of a 100BASE-FX-compatible PC, replacing the conventional Fast
Ethernet LAN connection. In Windows XP or 2000 environments, TCP and security
tasks are offloaded to the card's security processor, helping boost system
performance.
