Option-Packed and Affordable Multilayer Switching
The 3Com® SuperStack® 3 Switch 4900 family provides multilayer Gigabit
Ethernet switching in a versatile, affordable platform that's simple to scale
and manage. These switches are designed especially for organizations with
diverse and evolving bandwidth requirements that want to lower their price per
port and cost per megabit.
For server farms and 10/100/1000 switching
aggregation in wiring closets, the SuperStack
3 Switch 4924 provides 24 autosensing 10/100/1000 copper Ethernet ports, the
3Com SuperStack
3 Switch 4950 delivers multilayer Gigabit switching with 12 autosensing
10/100/1000 Ethernet ports, 6 1000BASE-SX ports, and 6 1000BASE-x GBIC ports;
the SuperStack
3 Switch 4900 is equipped with 12 autosensing 100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T ports,
while the SuperStack
Switch 4900 SX provides 12 1000BASE-SX ports.
For added scalability,
all the switches feature an expansion slot that can accommodate an optional
4-port 1000BASE-LX, 1000BASE-SX, or 1000BASE-T module, or a 4-port GBIC module
with a choice of GBICs (1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX, or 1000BASE-LH70
long-haul).
The SuperStack 3 Switch 4900 family support 3Com Gigabit
Multilayer Switching software, which offers feature-rich Layer 2 functionality,
Layer 3 switching for IP networks, and advanced traffic prioritization and
security capabilities to accommodate the ever growing requirements of enterprise
networks.
3Com XRN™ (eXpandable Resilient Networking) technology allows implementation
of high availability configurations using two interconnected SuperStack 3 Switch
4900 family switches, scaling the connections to 48 wirespeed Gigabit Layer 3
switching ports (with purchase of optional
3Com XRN Interconnect Kit, or GBIC Fabric Interconnect with GMS Advanced Feature
License)
SuperStack 3 Switch 4950 provides a high-density platform with support for
all gigabit media, enabling smooth integration with various configurations and
topologies
SuperStack 3 Switch 4924 provides a flexible, cost-effective way to
alleviate bottlenecks in 10/100/1000 Ethernet server farms and wiring
closets
SuperStack 3 Switch 4900 and Switch 4900 SX offer high-performance and
feature-rich yet affordable switching with radically simple setup and

SuperStack 3 Switch 4950 and Switch 4924 deliver peak nonblocking
performance, with a forwarding rate of over 41 million packets per second across
all ports
Layer 3 switching provides network control and security, and enables logical
segmentation of networks based on VLANs
Support for high availability software features such as Link Aggregation
using 802.3.ad, Resilient links, Spanning Tree and Rapid Spanning Tree (802.1w),
seven groups of RMON, and e-mail alerts
Advanced Class of Service support gives administrators the ability to handle
